Cactus State Completes Major Improvements to the Stoneman Lake Water System in Coconino County
Stoneman Lake, AZ (April 08, 2026) – Cactus State recently completed a series of major upgrades to the Stoneman Lake drinking water system, representing an investment of nearly $400,000 and delivering important improvements to water quality protection, storage reliability, and overall system performance for Stoneman Lake residents.
The Stoneman Lake system is uniquely designed to operate across three interconnected sites that work with the area’s natural terrain and elevation changes. After acquiring the system, Cactus State conducted a comprehensive evaluation to identify the improvements that would have the greatest impact on safety, reliability, and long-term service.
Stronger Protection for Drinking Water
A new chlorine dosing system has been installed at one of the system’s primary well sites, enhancing disinfection and providing an added safeguard for drinking water. A backup generator was also installed, to ensure seamless transition of power in the event of an outage.
This improvement strengthens treatment capability and supports ongoing compliance with state and federal water quality standards, helping ensure the water delivered to customers remains safe and dependable.
Modernized Storage and Improved Reliability
At another key water storage site, aging storage infrastructure was replaced with a new 20,000-gallon bolted steel tank. The site was also regraded and stabilized, and a new access road was constructed to allow crews to safely reach equipment throughout the year.
Modern storage and improved access reduce the risk of service disruptions, support consistent water pressure, and enable faster response during maintenance or unexpected events.
Safer, More Efficient Operations
Additional improvements at the upper site focused on safety and operational efficiency, including the installation of a permanent safety staircase and system adjustments that improve coordination between sites.
These upgrades allow crews to maintain equipment more effectively and respond more quickly when issues arise – helping keep service reliable for customers.
Investing in the System’s Future
Together, these improvements represent a long-term investment in the Stoneman Lake water system and its residents. With the projects now complete, the system is better positioned to operate efficiently, meet regulatory standards, and provide safe, consistent water service for years to come.
Cactus State continues to evaluate and invest in infrastructure improvements that strengthen reliability and support the needs of the communities it serves.
