Connecting with New City/Ucity Fellowship staff who have been teaming up with other non-governmental agencies (NGOs) every week to identify families and homes in their community needing help, CSWR volunteers worked into the early afternoon that Friday providing storage bins, hauling off trash and debris, sorting items, and scrubbing and sanitizing areas that had been flooded and were awaiting FEMA assistance yet to come.
“People often forget there are opportunities to serve in our own backyards. You don’t have to travel far to find people in need. The recent flooding in St. Louis was a disaster for people that live in houses that typically never flood. I was proud of our team getting out there to help people who would have otherwise been waiting months,” said Cox.
The next Central States Water Resources community service volunteer opportunity will be in October as CSWR joins forces with the River Des Peres Trash Bash.
